Upcoming Show

This week will be sparse with daily paintings as I am preparing for a Three Artist Show this coming weekend. I am posting a picture of an oil painting that I have just finished for the show. Entitled "Venetian Twilight", Oil on Birch Plywood, 20" x 24", it is a view of the Venice Lagoon from one of the many bridges. The foreground structures are the water bus kiosks with the beautiful Santa Maria della Salute in the background.

"Beach Walk", Oil on Panel, 5"x7"

The scene for this small painting is a beautiful beach in the "Cinque Terre" region of Italy. It was evening time and this couple were enjoying a solitary stroll on the beach. He was formally dressed and the lady had taken off her shoes.

I sketched this scene while having lunch on Boylston Street in Boston. I loved the light coming through that arched window and the way it was striking the table tops.

"Portrait of a Tour Guide"

During a recent visit to Kinsale, Ireland, we took a walking tour of the historic town. Our tour guide must have been a history professor at one time because he knew everything about everywhere. A real learning experience and a lot of fun. If you are ever in Kinsale be sure to take his "walking Tour".

I love painting dancers because of the many pose possibilities, and the different dance costumes can show a lot of movement and color.

This is a half sheet (14" x 21") watercolor of Carol, my favorite waitress at Ernie's Lunch, a local throwback type of eatery in my hometown of Melrose. Unfortunately this painting is not for sale, as it now resides in my private collection.

This is a nude painted with a very limited pallette. I really like the effects that can be obtained by painting this way.

It's back to work. The studio has been dried out and I can paint again.

The inspiratiion for this painting came from a visit to Ireland a couple of years ago.
It is from a photograph that I took at Jury's Hotel Pub in Dublin. I enjoy painting people doing ordinary things.

"A Walk Down Newbury Street-Boston", W/C,14 x 21

Good morning on this wet Patriots Day. When I went to bed last night I knew my studio would not survive the relentless rain unscathed. I woke up to at least an inch of water on the studio floor, so needless to say, there will be no daily painting today.

I am posting a picture of a watercolor that I did yesterday afternoon as a demonstration for the Andover Art Guild. This is a half sheet painting, 14" x 21", and is for sale for $250.00, unframed. Anyone Interested in buying it can e-mail me. If not sold by May 1, it will be exhibited at the Beebe Estate Gallery during May.

I like trying to capture dancers in motion. This inspiration came from watching a brief segment of "Dancing With The Stars", where the dancers were doing the PASO DOBLE.

This was not painted at the sketch group, but in my studio. I have discovered a great resource for figure artists on the internet that lets you download (for a fee) a model pose that can be manipulated in various ways. This literally allows you to draw or paint hundreds of different poses from the one download. If you want info on this please let me know. I will soon add this link to this site.
